The Academy offers seven in-person courses for disability services professionals.

Mandt
Trauma-informed training teaches crisis prevention and de-escalation skills proven to create an environment where everyone can say, “In this place, and with these people, I feel safe.”
This is a two-part course for both new and recertifying learners. You may register to take only one part (Relational or Technical) if that is all you need to complete. For Mandt Technical, please bring proof of current certification in Mandt Relational and be prepared to take a written test.
Course length: Both Mandt Relational and Mandt Technical are each typically seven hour classes. Lunch is provided on each full day of training.
Recertification: Required for DSPs every year.
Cost: $150 for each course in the two-part series.
DSP II
This program teaches advanced problem-solving and skills to help direct support professionals best support people with disabilities.
DSP II was developed by the Maryland DSP Training Consortium in partnership with the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration(DDA) with funding from the Maryland Department of Labor.
Course length: 40 hours total. Includes one 4-hour session per month for 5 months and 20 hours of online learning and assignments.
Recertification: Not required.
Cost: $415.00

Adult CPR, First Aid, AED
Learn how to recognize and respond to medical emergencies.
Course length: 4 hours
Recertification: Required every two years.
Cost: $85.00
Cultural Humility
Learners explore how to be more skillful and curious in their interactions with people from other cultures.
Course length: 3 hours
Recertification: Not required.
Cost: $65.00
Coach Approach
Learners develop a mindset that other people are capable and practice a skillset including presence, engaged listening, and collaborative feedback.
Course length: 12 hours total, offered over two days. Lunch is provided on both days.
Recertification: Not required.
Cost: $250.00
Certified Medication Technician Training
DSPs learn how to offer and store medications, update records, and observe/report physical or behavioral changes.
Course length: 20 hours, typically split into 5-hour sessions over 4 days.
Recertification: Required every two years.

Refresher Class Cost: $155.00
Transformative Communication
Learn how to successfully manage crucial, highly charged conversations using emotional intelligence, cultural humility, and language that invites partnership.
Course length: 2 hours
Recertification: Not required.
Cost: $45.00
