Hot off the Press | Fall Newsletter Highlights Volunteer Groups

Volunteer Groups Improve Jubilee Homes

Every homeowner has a wish list of home repairs they want to get done but rarely do. From power washing the deck to weeding the yard, something always falls to the bottom of the to-do list. There’s never enough time or funds to get everything done!

Imagine if a team of volunteers came to your house and tackled your repairs. That’s exactly what’s happening at Jubilee. Approximately 100 volunteers spruced up Jubilee homes in recent months. The volunteers painted two homes, landscaped, power-washed, and hung new shutters.

They also built a new picnic table so Jubilee housemates David, Kelly, and Louis can enjoy their outdoor space.

“Volunteering does as much for us as it does for the homeowners,” said Mark Castellino. “We come together around a common purpose.”

Mark’s church has participated with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County for six years. Each year, the organization picks worthy charities to partner with. This year, they chose Jubilee. Jubilee owns 13 homes, and the wish list is long. We’re committed to bringing each home up to date. Volunteers help us achieve this goal.

The Rotary Club of Rockville recently sent a team of volunteers to Jubilee’s original home. It’s been in constant use since 1978. The Rotarians spent three hours organizing and inventorying items in a long-term storage building on the property.

“It takes time and money to maintain these homes,” said Kathy Ford, Jubilee’s Operations Manager. “We’re very grateful to volunteers for helping us maintain a quality standard of living for the folks who live and work in each Jubilee home.”
