Urgent Advocacy Action Alert!

Tell Your Maryland Representatives to Act Now to Save Our DD Services

Drastic budget cuts to disability services in Maryland will harm people with disabilities who rely on Jubilee. Your action now is critical to save disability services in Maryland.

Tell your state Senator and Delegates they must act now to stop budget cuts to developmental disability services. Without their intervention, Governor Moore’s proposed budget cuts will trigger state and federal cuts totaling nearly half a billion dollars to developmental disability services. Marylanders with disabilities— and the support staff they rely on—will be hurt by reduced services that help them be part of their community.

Find your state elected officials here. Click on the tab Lookup and enter your address and zip code to find your three Delegates and one state Senator. Tell them how these budget cuts will hurt your loved ones who rely on developmental disability services, and the staff who support them.

The disability community is united in our opposition to these cuts. Members of the Jubilee community joined advocates in Annapolis on February 3 to rally to Save Our DD Services! See WBAL TV coverage of the rally here. “Let’s find another way to deal with this fiscal crisis that’s not on the backs of people with disabilities,” said Mat Rice, executive director of People on the Go, at the rally.

Here is a sample letter Jubilee is providing for you to customize (or write your own) to help in your outreach to your state elected officials.

Dear [Delegate/Senator Name]:

I live in your district and I am asking you to take action to stop Governor Moore’s proposed budget cuts to disability services.

[Share your story and how the budget cuts hurt you and your loved one].

These drastic cuts will hurt people in your district. People with disabilities will lose the support that helps them safely and independently. These cuts will have a crippling effect on a frontline workforce already in crisis. Maryland is at risk of destroying the progress its made in helping people with disabilities.

The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) budget hearings are scheduled for February 20 and 28. You can make a difference for your vulnerable constituents by calling for these cuts to be stopped.

Sincerely,

[Your name/address]
