With deep sadness we share the passing of Joseph Cumberpatch. Joe joined Jubilee in 2015 and passed away peacefully in his home on September 16. He was 63 years old.

Joe shared his home with Toni Zoghby, the late Bill Scaggs, and live-in Direct Support Professional Martha Ohanya. Following Bill’s passing, Jonathan Hull joined the household, and Joe and Jonathan developed a close friendship. Joe will be remembered as a fun-loving, spirited man with a great sense of humor who was often described as “the life of the party.” He loved his family and had a deep passion for sports, always supporting the Washington Nationals and Commanders. He also loved reading The Washington Post, watching his favorite shows, taking long drives, and going to McDonald’s. Joe’s personality, routines, spirited conversations, and ability to bring laughter to those around him made him a special part of our community. As one staff member shared, the home “is noticeably quiet without him.”

Please keep Joe’s family, his housemates, and the many Jubilee staff who have had the privilege of knowing him in your thoughts and prayers. Joe will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever a part of the Jubilee family.

People supported by Jubilee and employees are invited to a memorial service for Joe on Thursday, October 1, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in Classroom A at Jubilee’s Montgomery Avenue office. Light refreshments will be provided.
