Two Jubilee Homes Spruced Up During National Rebuilding Month
National charity Rebuilding Together’s Montgomery County chapter spruced up two Jubilee homes during its National Rebuilding Month. We’re honored to be chosen as a local recipient of their good deeds.
“The two homes receiving the work were built in 1958 and 1972, and these older homes need a lot of loving care,” said Jubilee Operations Manager Kathy Ford. “It takes time and money to maintain these homes, so we’re very grateful to the volunteers from Rebuilding Together Montgomery County for helping us maintain a quality standard of living for the folks who live and work in each home.”
It was a whirlwind three days with lots of work completed to update the two homes, which are each home to three people with disabilities supported by Jubilee.
Mark Castellino volunteered through the Takoma Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The church has partnered with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County for the past six years. Over the three days, approximately 65 volunteers painted both inside and out, landscaped, power washed, and hung new shutters. “Volunteering does as much for us as it does for the homeowners,” said Mark. “We come together around a common purpose.”
Chris Ours volunteered with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County through the Christ Episcopal Church of Kensington. The church sent about 30 volunteers who painted, power washed, landscaped, and built a new picnic table for the people who live in the house to enjoy. “Building relationships is important to our community,” said Chris. “May the work of the volunteers be an expression of love in the world.”
