Maryland General Assembly Stops Disability Budget Crisis

Your Advocacy Helped Save Disability Services

Thanks to your strong and sustained advocacy, the Maryland General Assembly passed a budget this April that avoids most of the devastating cuts that would have put the people Jubilee supports at risk. While the new Maryland budget will reduce Jubilee’s income from the state, we are confident that we will continue to provide high-quality support that helps people with disabilities live in the home of their choice. We will continue to pay our direct support professionals fair and competitive wages that help us retain our dedicated workforce.

If you contacted a member of the General Assembly, please reach out to thank them for restoring most of the funding for DDA. We would not be in this position without their determination. We extend special thanks to the District 18 delegation who represent Jubilee’s office: Delegates Emily Shetty, Jared Solomon, Aaron Kaufman, and Senator Jeff Waldstreicher. Thank you to the many members of the Montgomery County delegation who met with Jubilee.

To meet the fiscal challenges posed by the new state budget, Jubilee has begun trimming as many operational expenses as possible in preparation for these cuts. In consultation with our staff, we have also reduced some of our employee benefits to save money in the coming year.

The fight for disability services is not over. Your advocacy is still desperately needed as our attention turns to Congress.

Disability providers are at risk for cuts to federal Medicaid funding. Medicaid covers long-term support, including the residential services that Jubilee provides. Please let Congress know they must reject Medicaid cuts and protect services for people with disabilities. Click here to send a message to your Senators and Representative.

Together with you and our elected leaders, we will continue to ensure that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are valued and embraced in our community.
