Helps Secure First Apartment, Attends Grand Opening with County
A new affordable apartment community recently opened in Rockville, and Jubilee celebrated its opening after securing one of the first apartments.
“Navigating affordable housing for people with disabilities is a complex task,” said Jubilee Program Director Felicia Denman. “The Chimes apartment community represents a new opportunity for people we support on fixed incomes to have their own apartment. We were honored to join the opening celebration with county leadership and other affordable housing advocates.”
Jubilee had a special reason to celebrate as our Housing Support Services team worked with Aaron Brewington to sign his first lease on his own apartment. Congratulations, Aaron!
“Aaron’s housing journey is a wonderful example of self-determination and personal growth,” said his Jubilee housing support specialist, Amanda Gibson. “With the loving support of his dad and his Jubilee direct support team, he has consistently worked toward his goal of greater independence, moving from a group home to now living in his own apartment.”
Aaron’s dad, Eric Brewington, is proud of his son’s increasing independence, saying, “When Aaron graduated [high school] and entered the work force, he was adamant about living on his own and maximizing his potential. With hard work and diligence, he has overcome the obstacles that stood in his way. From group homes to signing his lease for his own apartment, Aaron has attained his goals. Aaron never gave up, so how could I? Thank you, Jubilee, for your support.”
